About Me

IMG_2832It all started in the early 1990s when I learned how to cook my first dish, chicken stir fry. It was simple to make and sparked my interest to learn more. For a couple summer vacations during college, I took cooking classes learning french bistro cooking, “gourmet” pizza, and soups.  Over the years my cooking became more sophisticated and I feel now I can make just about anything. It may not be amazing the first attempt, but by the second time it will definitely impress.

Our food choices took a big shift after the film Food Inc. (more on that here.) Understanding where our food comes from causes all sorts of ethical and environmental issues which brings me to “sustainable.” Sustainable food is all about raising food and animals in a way that is healthy for the planet.  When I cook at home, I start with ingredients and spend a lot of time seeking out the best places to get sustainable products. That means we buy more food direct from organic farmers, local ranchers, and small batch producers.

We buy what we can’t find elsewhere at places like Whole Foods, but we rarely set foot in a traditional grocery store which is loaded with processed foods and non-organic products.  Yes it does cost more, but food is so important to our health and planet.  We are fortunate enough to have the ability to chose, but never look down on those who do not. The best thing to do is cook at home even if you can’t do organic or use sustainable options.

Besides my love of food, I also am a car enthusiast. I love Top Gear (UK) and have been a BMW CCA member for over 15 years. I also have authored a popular car blog – Auto Marketing Blog – since 2008 that’s been featured in AdAge, various automotive blogs and podcasts.  Recently, I leased my first full electric car, a Fiat 500e. If you want to learn more about that, here are some initial thoughts.

In my professional life, I lead digital marketing for one of the most innovative and successful developers of retail properties, Caruso Affiliated (The Grove and Americana at Brand.) I live in Los Angeles with my wife and twin boys.
